Ramayana Chapter 18-Rama Meets Jatayu

One day Rama saw a huge figure perched on a very big tree . The trio thought it to be a Rakshasa. In response to Rama’s enquiry he answered “ I am Jatayu , your father’s aged friend “.
Then he told his story to Rama. The story is that the sage Kashyapa had two wives, Kadru and Vinita. Garuda’s Mother was Vinita.
Garuda had two sons, Jatayu and Sampati. Brother Sampati had eagle’s form and was a demi- god . He was a friend of Dasaratha. In Hindu epic Jatayu is considered a divine bird. Rama became very much pleased hearing the story of Jatayu.
The bird was a great devotee of Rama. When Rama and brother Lakshmana went for hunting, Jatayu looked after the safety of Sita.
Rama was delighted by the beauty of the place Panchavati. He in his thoughts was grateful to sage Agasthya for recommending this place for their stay. He told to Lakshmana that they can enjoy the beauty of Panchavati and stay there any length of time.
