Ramayana Chapter 12 - Bharatha at Chitrakoot

After few days of arrival of Rama at Chitrakut one day all three were sitting outside the hermitage enjoying the nature . On arriving at Chitrakut Bharatha came to know of Rama’s dwelling and he ran to meet and embrace his brother.

Seeing him running barefooted Rama too ran and embraced Bharatha. Lakshmana also went near to Bharatha and embraced him. Rama asked if everything was all right at Ayodhya and how their father was doing.

After playing respect to Sita, Bharatha  expressed the purpose of his coming to see Rama. He said to Rama “ father could not bear the grief of separation from you, brother.

He breathed his last with your name on his lips. I was with my maternal parents at time.” Hearing the news of his father’s death tears fell from Rama’s eyes.

He said to Bharatha that he hoped to return to Aydohya on completion of period of exile. But with his father’s departure he lost all enthusiasm . Then saint Vasishta explained Rama the truth of life and death and consoled him. As advised by Saint Vasishta Rama went to the River Mandakini and standing in water offered oblations to the departed soul of his father.

Chitrakut was beautiful place about 30 miles away from Prayag. There was another place called Sita Kund about 2 Km away from the hermitage of sage Bharadwaja. It is here Rama asked Sumantra to return back to Ayodhya. Sumantra humbly submitted that he can’t go back without out Rama and with empty chariot. Rama said to him he had to return back to Aydohya to do two jobs, one Job is to console his father Dasaratha and second job is to assure Kaikeyi that Rama had started the forest life as wished by her. Sumantra went back to Aydohya.

Next Rama accompanied by Sita and Lakshmana proceeded and reached Triveni Sangam and crossed River Yamuna in a boat . It took 2days for them to arrive at Chitrakut by walk after Crossing the River.
At Chitrakut Lakshmana built a beautiful hermitage on the bank of River Malyavathi. Life here was peaceful for them .

It is here Bharatha came to meet Rama and persuade him to return back to Aydohya to inherit the throne.RAMA AT CHITRAKUT
