Ramayana Chapter 11 - Rama's Journey to the Forest

Rama accompanied by Sita and brother Lakshmana departed from Aydohya and were escorted by Sumantra, the prime minister of maharajah Dasaratha in a chariot to the banks of Tamsa River about 20 km from Aydohya, where they camped in the palace called Purva Chakiya.

The citizens of Aydohya followed Rama and family up to here. From this palace Rama with Sita and Lakshmana commenced his journey at midnight in a chariot along with Sumantra without the the knowledge of the citizens so that they would not follow Rama on their journey ahead.

They reached Prayag where Rama met his old friend Guha who helped the three to cross the river in a boat. Subsequently they arrived at sage Bharadwaja’s hermitage . The sage welcomed Rama, Sita and Lakshmana. He advised them to stay near the mountains of Chitrakut.
