Venkatagiri is a town in Nellore district in  Andhra Pradesh. It is famous for its Handloom Cotton Sarees. Venkatagiri is a place for history and handlooms. It was part of a small kingdom that was integrated into the Indian Republic.

Vekatagiri was originally known as Kalimilli till the 17th century and was ruled by Gobburi Polygars under Vijaynagar Empire. They were defeated by Recherla Venkatadri Naidu. The village was renamed as Venkatagiri. By the mid 17th century, the Velogothi rulers shifted their capital to Venkatagiri and it lasted as a Zamindari till independence. It was located between two rivers I.e kaivalya river and godderu river.

Venkatagiri Sari is a sari-style woven in Venkatagiri of Nellore district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Venkatagiri saris are known for their fine weaving.

The history of the sari dates back to the early 1700s during the rule of Venkatagiri. They were encouraged by the Velugoti dynasty of Nellore and also by the Bobbili and Pithapuram dynasties.
The Venkatagiri sari has different varieties like Venkatagiri 100, Venkatagiri-putta and Venkatagiri-silk, with the Venkatagiri 100 being popular of all. The saris are made from fine cotton and the most significant is the use of zari.
